It’s bird! It’s a plane! It’s…improv! On February 23rd, the Gatlinburg Improv Fest is bringing the impressive and entertaining art of improvisation to the Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre in downtown Gatlinburg. This is a great event for both improv performers and spectators – it will be loads of fun! For only $8 to $12, visitors and locals can enjoy a number of acts, including the headliner Chase Padgett with his award winning show, 6 Guitars. Chase Padgett will be performing at 8 pm on both Friday and Saturday.
6 Guitars
This act premiered in 2010 at the Orlando International Fringe Festival. It picked up a stack of awards, including Producer of the Year, Best Musician, Best in Venue, Best Solo Show, Best Original Play and Best Male Performer. For anyone who loves music, this is the show to see. The Orlando Sentinel wrote, “It’s just one guy – and one guitar – but it’s amazing!” The Edmonton Sun was also impressed by his performance at the Edmonton Fringe Festival (North America’s largest) and wrote, “5 Stars. The hour-long play will leave you doing two things: laughing until you cry, and lifting your jaw to its proper position.” During the performance, Padgett becomes 6 different guitar players, each with a unique sound (he offers up a little bit of country, jazz, folk, rock, classical, and the blues), personality, and back story.
Over the course of the event, there will be performances by many solo acts and improv groups, as well as a series of classes by improv instructors, so there will be a little bit of something for everyone. For more information, call 865-325-9712.
