Take a trip to
Gatlinburg TN on August 17th and 18th for the Gatlinburg MountainFest. For years Gatlinburg has been known for its mountain heritage and summer is one of the peak travel seasons to Gatlinburg TN. It is the perfect time to bring in a new event. This is going to be Gatlinburg’s 2nd MountainFest, which is a celebration of our heritage. This event brings two fun filled days of bluegrass and Appalachian mountain music, crafters and plenty of demonstrators. This year MountainFest will be bringing a new addition. Old Timers Day is going to be held in honor of all the Gatlinburg Bicentennial. Old Timers Day was originally started by the Pi Beta Phi Settlement School in 1923. Old Timers Days was established with intentions of bringing the community together, especially the older generations, to share stories and crafts and to just have an old-fashioned time. It was held every year up until the 1950’s but now MountainFest is going to revive Old Timers Day with some storytelling, demonstrations, husband and pig calling contests, and a special group discussion with some of the town’s seniors telling you about the earlier days of Gatlinburg TN. Old Timers Day will have a special area set aside in MountainFest. MountainFest will also have many local crafters out and about demonstrating their skills that were passed down from earlier generations. Entertainment will be wonderful and will include mountain bands, and some clogging groups. On Saturday August 18th you can bring out the entire family to enjoy fiddle, banjo and guitar playing and watch some competition for awards and cash prizes in the Mountain Strings Competition. MountainFest takes place right in downtown Gatlinburg TN. Be sure to plan your next vacation to the Smokies for August 17th and 18th. You do not want to miss this year’s unforgettable MountainFest.
