Taste of Autumn in Gatlinburg

With the heat of summer upon us, it’s hard to imagine that fall is right around the corner. Autumn is one of the most popular times to visit Gatlinburg, with the changing of the leaves coloring the beautiful Smoky Mountains.  The cooler air welcomes guests and families as they explore the Gatlinburg Parkway and venture into the fall foliage at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you’re ringing in the season of fall in Gatlinburg, you won’t want to miss the Taste of Autumn event on September 15th! Held at the Gatlinburg Convention Center, this event draws more than

Personalized Wood Signs in Gatlinburg

One of our family’s favorite possessions is our family sign. We purchased our first wood sign not long after we married, and in a matter of five years four more little wooden signs hung under ours with the name of each sweet son and darling daughter. Here are a few of the wood sign makers along the Parkway in downtown Gatlinburg. You can peruse each one and choose which you like best. Another idea is to simply choose the one closest to where you are staying, placing your order on your way into town that day, and picking it up

Vintage Views Film Premiere

Have you ever wondered what the Gatlinburg area was like before the shops, stores and restaurants came to be? In the early years, the area was filled with eager settlers yearning to build their homes and businesses from the ground up. Prominent people and their families such as E.E. Maples, Wiley Oakley, Radford Gatlin and settled throughout the town, documenting their day-to-day life on home video. At the Vintage Views Film Premiere on August 27th, you can catch a glimpse of these early settlers through their donated home movie clips. Drive the Roaring Fork Motor Trail

With the suffocating heat and humidity of summer, it is no wonder why many Gatlinburg visitors are choosing to do their sightseeing by automobile. While the Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers hundreds of miles of hiking trails, many visitors, due to health and age, are not able to take advantage of all that the Park has to offer. One of the most popular automobile sight-seeing routes is the Roaring Fork Motor Trail. This six mile paved road offers visitors a chance to glimpse into the primitive cabins, barns and homesteads that once ruled the Gatlinburg area. The entrance to

Packing Tips for Gatlinburg

I think most people will agree that packing can be the most stressful part of a vacation. There’s so much to take into consideration; weather, occasions, emergencies, etc. So, allow me to get you started with a couple ideas (assuming your checking into a luxury cabin). Pack well in advance – putting off packing will only add insult to injury. If it helps, do some research on the cabin you’re going to by checking out the website or calling to see what isn’t provided for you. For instance most cabins already have some essentials, like sheets, towels, soap, etc.; however,

Shop for Jewelry in Gatlinburg

I have always enjoyed the artisan shops in Gatlinburg. The beautiful pottery, jewelry, handmade soap; I could go on and on. But I must confess, from the time I was a teenager, I have found several of the other shops… well, lacking. One of the areas I had found lacking in particular was the jewelry shops. Most of my experiences before were full of cheesy, cheap jewelry, being sold at an INCREDIBLY high price. That has not at all been my experience this time. I guess the economy has customers being more particular about the items they purchase, if they

Heat Safety for Children

Most of us are experts on the “How to Prevent Sun Burns” speech. We are pounded over the head with this beneficial information by our mothers, doctors, and even on commercials and in the news. But another important bit of information, especially for our little ones, is heat safety. If you are visiting from a cooler climate, make sure you take extra care with your little one. Here are a few things to keep in mind while visiting the Gents and Belles in the sultry South: A child’s body temperature warms about five times faster than an adult’s. Keep this
