March means the arrival of spring and the melting of the winter’s snow. The Great Smoky Mountains begin to warm, wildlife begins to stir, and plants and wildflowers begin to bloom. It’s a beautiful time to visit Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas, and the community events just add to the draw of a springtime Smoky Mountain visit.
From March 18 until June 7, the It’s A Spring Thing! Is the area’s celebration of all things spring. Tons of events during that time cater to people of all ages. It’s basically the area’s springtime Winterfest! From March 31 until April 4, the Gatlinburg Convention Center hosts one of the area’s most popular events – the Great Smoky Easter Arts & Crafts Show. The arts are a very important part of the area’s culture, and the Easter Arts & Crafts Show showcases this. Dozens of local artisans come together to display their goods, sell their wares, and showcase their skills. Kids and adults will enjoy browsing as they buy one-of-a-kind souvenirs and watch the craftsmen hard at work. It’s exciting to see just how they create their masterpieces! At the Great Smoky Easter Arts & Crafts show, find wood carvings, quilts, photographs, watercolor paintings, handmade jewelry, leather goods, pottery, frames, baskets, and much, much more! The artisans from the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community love showing off their fantastic work at the Easter show, but you can also visit them year-round on their 8-mile loop in Gatlinburg.
Another celebration of local craftsmanship, the 21st Annual A Mountain Quiltfest will be held from March 18 to March 21. The March event features more than 60 quilting classes, a quilt show featuring quilts from around the country, and a competition for quilters of all levels! There will be 10 categories to compete in, offering more than $20,000 in cash and prizes!
